Thundercats Race!!!!

So tonight we thought we were supposed to have a double header because our last 2 games got rained out. Well we failed to notice they switched our game from what they said would be today to next Tuesday. So our entire team showed up all ready to play and the fields were empty. We decided to have some fun anyway and do some racing.

In order from left to right Jessica, Kristina, Brindi, & Nicole. Nicole won the girls race with Kristina coming in 2nd, Jessica a close 3rd and Brindi right behind in 4th. We all knew that Nicole (pregnant) would win. She is lightning fast.

The next race was AWESOME...

In order from left to right Justin, Ryan, Jonny. This was a close race as you can see up until Justin takes a tumble, so so funny. Let me add that they were racing in their socks! Jonny takes a nice slide across the finish line. We were all laughing so hard. Brindi got so excited that she scared baby Drake!

Even though we didn't get to play the Thundercats still had a little fun.

ThunderCats vs. Green Machines 9/1/09

Victory, our sweet mistress that visits us less often than we would like came back to our wanton arms again last night. We can't complain about the infrequency of her visits because the little time we have with her is shear bliss, and last night Victory was as spectacular as ever.

It stared out cool and slow, but things heated up soon enough. We even threw a little mud in the mix to spice things up. Ok, I'm taking this analogy a little too far. Clearly Justin needs to assist me with the frustration I am experiencing today. Sorry guys.

Alright, lets get down and dirty, I mean lets get busy, I mean lets get crackin', WHIPS, SPANK ME! I'm out of control! Here are the details of the game, not my bedroom. Who knows, it could be a little bit of both.

We were in the grass first, catching balls. No, seriously Justin made some great catches in the first inning in Left field. Chris pitched his balls right into the sweet spot all night long and struck several people out. When we got up...to bat, Esther smacked it hard and got off, I mean on base no problem. That's it I'm done. I'll just give it to you straight.

Scott made great catches in Left, Jonny and Ryan had some great hits. Ryan did a nice leap frog jump over the 3rd baseman's head. Brandon played with us last night too and was a pleasure as usual. Jess was rockin' second and Carey was steaming up 3rd. Brindi made a nice toss in from Right in her new cleats I might add, and Nicole was all over catcher like whipped cream on...well you know. We had a great game and won it in the 6th 11 - 7.

On a more somber note, last night was our beloved Short Stop Jonny's last game. He will be moving to D.C. We will miss you Jonny. Come back and visit often.

Alright ThunderCats, see you in two weeks when we play the Hungry Hippos again! Now go get you some!

Kristina

Thundercats Vs. Hungry Hippos 8/25/09

Tonight's game was unlike any we have ever played. The Hippos were well matched opponents and we kept it close for 8 innings. The first 3 innings flew by quickly as each team virtually had 3 up and 3 down. Eventually the Hippos scored 2 runs, but we came right back and scored 2 also. They got ahead by 1 and then in the 7th inning we came back to tie at 3-3. We went into overtime and the Hippos were up first. They managed to score 1 run. In the bottom of the 8th we fought hard and almost came back with runners in scoring position on 2nd and 3rd, but our victory was stifled by the Hippos' lightening fast LC fielder who caught everything within 100 feet of him. Final score 3-4 Hippos.

Now, I don't think anyone should feel bad about our loss tonight because we played a great game. Sure we had a few errors, but they were overshadowed by some amazing plays. Justin didn't let anything remotely close to him hit the ground tonight. Brandon, who subbed for Jonny at SS made a ton of amazing plays. Chris was a freakin' champion as pitcher. He pitched all 8 innings and I don't think he let a single person walk. That is just amazing. Ryan hit an amazing triple just barely shy of the fence. Carey made at least 2 great catches at 3rd, and Jess, who is back by the way and we are so happy about it, had some good plays at 2nd. Andy is an awesome coach who is always encouraging and supportive whether on the field or off. We are all backing each other up really well and play well together. I am sad that we only have 3 games left. Hopefully we will end the season with 3 more W's!

Thundercats Vs. Stone Mountain Chrysler/Jeep 8/18/09

We all look so cheerful and hopeful before our game last night, oblivious to the solemn fate that lays ahead.

Well folks, we all knew it couldn't last. Now I will regretfully and mournfully report the events leading up to our utter destruction on the ball field last night. We started out hitting last night. We got one run in the first inning. All of us kind of expected the pitcher of the other team to walk us all like he did last time, but no such luck. A few of us even struck out while waiting for the ever-present balls of games past.

When we were out in the field things didn't go much better for us. I made continuous mistakes at 3rd and I am ready to forfeit my position to someone more worthy. Jonny, on the other hand made some great plays at 3rd, Left Center, Left, 2nd, and Short Stop which was his assigned position. Nothin' but love for ya Jonny. We appreciate your dedication to getting the out. Jonny also took out the catcher of the other team with his cleats. Way to go Jon!

Chris and Carey had a run-in between the pitcher's mound and 2nd when they both went for the same ball. Luckily no one was hurt and Chris made the catch. Justin made a good catch in left field and had a good play at first. Scott and Ryan also got some catches in the outfield. Stephanie made some good stops at 2nd and Chris was pitching as well as ever. He even struck several people out. Unfortunetley, for every good play there were at least two bad plays to counteract any progress we might have made in this game (at least 4 were my fault).

The final score ended up being 2 - 10. Better luck next time Cats. Here are some pictures for your viewing enjoyment. Thanks Jess for taking these pics, and thanks Patrick and Stephanie for subbing for us last night.

Now a quick word from one of our sponsors:

Ever been playing a game with friends that involved a timer and thought "if only I knew how to cheat my way to victory"? Ever been in the kitchen of your arch nemesis's house and thought "if only I could slow down the timer so his stupid cake would burn!"? Ever challenged your friend to a "who can do the most push-ups in a minute" contest and wanted to speed the timer up for him and slow it down for yourself, but just didn't have a way to do it? Well now you can with "Gag Timer"! A new iPhone app that allows you to speed time up, slow time down, or just time things normally. For more info check out the "Gag Timer" here. Look for "Gag Stopwatch" coming soon!

ThunderCats vs. Green Machines 8/11/09

THREE IN A ROW BABY!!

THUNDERCATS ARE ON A ROLL! Tonight after an hour delay we finally got to play our game. We had some lightning delays in the game before us, so we didn't get to start till 9:30. We played team Green Machine. We won 19-8! I believe we were up 14-3 in the 3rd inning. We had some really great hits tonight. Congrats goes to Justin for 2 great hits, and Esther is still consistent in getting on base. Nicole made a great play from home and we had minimal errors. Everyone did a good job playing together as a team. Chris was awesome at pitcher once again. Thanks to Stephanie Beaty for filling in for Jessica this week. We missed Ryan and Brindi who were only able to play one inning before having to go home to Aden, since we were so late starting. We missed you guys. Here are a few pictures we took before the game. I tried to take some during the game but was told I couldn't use my flash so we ended up with only a few pics. Next week will be better for picture taking.

CAN I GET A THUNDERCATS HO!!!!!

ThunderCats vs. OPC 8/4/09

WE WON AGAIN!!!

We played against OPC again tonight (we will play all of the teams in our league twice this season). We lost to them in our first game of this season, but tonight we still had the Thunder rolling from last week's win. We started in the field and got 3 outs almost immediately. When we were up to bat we scored 4 runs before the inning ended and the runs just kept coming from there. Chris is smokin' hot at pitcher lately. He has been making great plays at almost every game this season and tonight was no exception. All of our guys hit really well tonight which kept us circling the bases. Jessica is a freakin' star at 2nd base, unfortunately tonight was her last game for awhile. We will miss you Jess. You really are amazing and we hope you come back to us soon. Scott hit an in-field homerun which ended our game, because get this, the other team had the mercy rule called on them! That's right, we beat OPC 14 -4 in the 6th! Can you believe it?! We were so excited that we went to Chick-fil-a again this week! We think we will make this a winning tradition. We took a team picture again tonight too. It was taken with a cell phone, so the quality is not so good.

I think the positive differences in our team this season lie in the direction of our awesome Coach. Thanks Andy! Keep shouting at us because it makes all the difference in the world!

Cats, feel free to contribute to these posts. If you would like author access just let me know and your wish will be granted.

ThunderCats vs. Stone Mtn. Chrysler/Jeep 7/28/09

WE WON!!!

Somehow we ended up on a business league or something so the teams this season have some boring business names. So, we had seen this team play before and they looked like they were really good. They had beaten the teams that we saw them playing against and they have a girl that plays short stop which means they are really good or really stupid and from what we could tell it was the former. We went into this game with high spirits, but I think we all fully expected to lose as usual. Then a miracle took place. We played that game like a new team. We were unified and communicating and we rocked in the field and at bat. It didn't hurt that their pitcher walked almost all of us at least once and they were making stupid errors constantly. Something good happened to us and something terrible happened to them. Though I can't remember the end score exactly, I think it was like 14 - 8. We were so excited that we went and celebrated at Chick-fil-a afterwords where we took this picture.

ThunderCats vs. Auto-n-Audio 7/21/09

We lost this game too. Can't remember the details other than it sucked.

ThucerCats vs. OPC 7/14/09

This was our first game of the Summer season and...we lost. I wasn't there but apparently it was a close game. We were missing several of our players, so perhaps our loss was partially due the cats not being out in full force. Anyone who can remember this game is welcome to contribute to this lacking post.

The Cats are back to play the Summer season! We have lost a few and gained some new. Welcome to the team Andy (Andy will be our new coach) and Jessica Dollar, Scott Kaiser, Jonny Wood, and Esther Andrade! We also have some awesome new subs this season, Patrick Andrade, and Brandon Earick. Welcome everyone! We look forward to winning with you this season!

Games start on July 14 at Bethseda Park and will take place every Tuesday thereafter until mid-September. See you on the in the stands Cats fans!

ThunderCats vs. Misfits 6/18

We played out last game of the Spring season last Thursday. As always, we lost. The Misfits are one of the best teams in the league. If their girls didn't have boobs we wouldn't have been able to tell them apart from the guys. They were really good, but I won't dwell on the negative details. Instead I will pay tribute to each of our ThunderCats. Thanks to Jessica's photography each player has a collage below consisting of pictures from our last game. The collages are displayed in the same order as the players location in the batting order last week. Keep in mind that I made this batting order and I suck at softball strategy, so no need to criticize. I am well aware of my inadequacy.

Unfortunately, Ryan could not be at our last game, so there are no pictures of him, but Andy subbed for him so there is a collage of him where Ryan's would have been. By the way, Andy is coaching and playing with us in our Summer season. Welcome to the team!

I put myself first in the batting order because I am conceded and cocky and I know that this is the best place for me. Just kidding...sort of. Though I am probably conceded and cocky, I put myself first because usually I can hit resonably well and get on base, but I didn't in this particular game. I made a lot of errors at 3rd base during this game as well, but I did make one pretty good catch that resulted in an out, but sadly there are no pictures of it. Check out my arm in the picture on the top right. I don't know where those muscles came from, because they were certainly not there before and after I left the batter's box. Also, you will notice that Nicole, Carey, and I are sporting new ThunderCats wear. We printed the tanks ourselves.

Chris always gives it his all on the field. He is too hard on himself, but he should know that he is a really good player. Look at that ready position on the top left, a thing of beauty. He played SS again last week and he made several good plays. The crazy thing was that just as Chris and I thought we were getting to know the Misfits as batters they totally changed things up on us (a sign of a great team), so Chris and I were all over the place trying to field the balls. I've enjoied playing next to you in the field Chris. Keep that arm warm!

Jana is a sweet outfielder. She made some great catches last week. You can tell by her expression in some of these pictures that she is a serious player. She knows the game really well because she played for many years in her childhood. We are going to miss her on the team in the Summer, but hopefully she will come back every now and then to sub for us.

Andy just hit for us last week, but he did an awesome job. He was one of the 4 guys who actually made it on base this game. He even slid back to first after trying to advance to second. He made it, but he jacked his shoulder in the process. Hurry up and get better Andy! You've got a lot more playing to do!

Carey is HOT, HOT, HOT! She played 2nd and right field last week. Check out the nice out that she got at second in the bottom right corner. She went for the double, but the runner was a little too quick. Carey hussles at any position she plays. Check out those hot legs! Carey can also throw pretty far...for a girl.

Ta was our pitcher. He has been a great asset to our team. He is so versitile. He was another one of the few to get on base. He also tried to make it to second, but was forced back to first. The Misfits weren't going to let us get very far in this game. We didn't score at all.

Nicole, Nicole, Nicole. What would we do without our beloved manager? Nicole played catcher and right field. She is always a good sport, and is willing to play wherever she is needed. I keep forgetting to compliment her on this, but she made an awesome play at home last week. I believe she got our only out at home that the catcher has facilitated for the season. Way to go Nicole! Let's see more plays like that next season! Hot uniform, by the way!

This hottie made a sweet as candy catch at 1st last week. Look at him dive for the ball! Way to sacrifice yourself for the ball Justin! He then attempted to get the chick running to second out, but she made it back by the skin of her teeth. Justin can hit well too, but for some reason games aren't his best venue for hitting. That will change next season, right Justin?

Brindi played right field and 2nd last week. As you can see, she is the only player on our team that refuses to get cleats, but she tries her best to make up for it. She has definitely improved over the course of our season. Keep up the hard work for next season Brindi! I love the graceful way she is picking up the ball in the picture at the top left.

Jesse plays it cool wherever he is on the field and he can really look intemidating. He was in center field last week. Check out the stance and expression in almost every picture, no emotion. He hit really well last week and made it on base which was a big deal in last week's game. Jesse is a competitive guy, so I know how tough it must have been for him to be on a losing team. He has always been a good sport about it though. Jesse has a busy Summer planned, so he has decided not to play next season. We will miss you Jesse.

Rachel was our rookie on the team. She had never played softball before, but she was determined to learn and to do her best. She came into the team not knowing anyone real well except for Nicole, but she managed to put up with us crazies. She has improved over the course of the season as well. Like the rest of us, she has gotten hit with the ball a few times, but she has taken her blows in stride. Thanks for playing with us Rachel! I hope you have enjoied it.

Doug, the powerhouse, played center field also and man did he rock that position! He made several amazing catches in the outfield last week. Even the Misfits were impressed by Doug's skills. If I had to name an MVP for last week's game it would be Doug. He also almost made it to 3rd base, unlike anyone else on our team last week. He got caught in a pickle and ended up having to succumb to the inevitable out. There is a picture of it on the bottom right. Doug played hard this season and he has the scar to prove it. Sorry we never won, but I've enjoied having you on the team.

So there it is. The season is over and though we had no wins I think we learned a lot. Our spirits are still high and we still have high hopes for next season.

Our next season starts on July 7th at Bethesda park. We will play every Tuesday for 10 weeks (with exceptions for rainouts). We will have some new players next season too. Andy and Jessica Dollar are joining us as well as Jonny Wood, and Scott Kaiser. Welcome to the team guys! THUNDERCATS HOOOO!

ThunderCats vs. Xtremes 6/4

So I was too disappointed to do a post Thursday after our game. Though we played our best game the other night, our efforts did not result in a win. We came so close to winning that we could all taste the sweetness of victory, but we got anxious and triumph slipped away from us. Here is a brief synopsis of how things went:

It was raining pretty much the whole game, but if anything the rain made us play better. The rain cooled us down and the clouds kept the sun out of our eyes. We were the visitors and we scored one point in the first inning and kept the Xtremes from scoring when they got up to bat. In the second inning we scored 4 more times and then again we kept them from scoring when they got up to bat, but we began to lose it in the third inning and the Xtremes scored 5 runs! In the 4th inning we scored 2 more times and kept the Xtremes at bay until the 6th inning when we psyched ourselves out and let them get 3 runs. The Xtremes won 8-7. I almost cried I was so disappointed.

Some of the highlights of our game the other night:

Justin had an amazing catch in center left. He dove for it and caught the ball 4 inches before it hit the ground! He was running so fast when he dove for it his momentum kept him rolling for a second but he held on to the ball and we got the most amazing out ever!!!

Ryan had 2 in the park home runs which were the reasons we got most of our runs.

The Fox’s had a great game. Chris was at Short and Carey was at 2nd. They facilitated a double play one inning and had back to back outs catching in field pop-flies.

All in all it was a bitter sweet game. We played well for the most part, but as usual the win wasn’t ours.

ThunderCats vs. Jimmy's Cousin 5/28

I wanted to take some pictures tonight but I didn't try very hard to get good ones because my head was in the game. So, we were the home team and in the first inning I can't remember how many runs Jimmy's Cousin scored (I don't know the story behind their team name, but it's probably stupid) but it wasn't more than 3. When we got up to bat we didn't get any runs and we consistently got no runs until the last inning when we scored twice. We lost of course and the score ended up being 2 - 9, but we played 6 whole innings and we actually played pretty well in comparison to some other games.

Ta made some amazing plays at short stop as usual and then took over pitching for the last couple of innings. Chris was our pitcher for the first several innings and then handed the mound to Ta when his arm wore out.

Doug Kipper was running for a fly ball in left field and he ended up taking one on the face for the team. I wish I had thought to get a picture of it cause the gash was crazy deep. He is in need of some serious stitches. We hope that you recover quickly Doug!

Jessica Dollar subbed for Brindi tonight and Nicole's Mom, Laura, subbed for Rachel. Thanks for stepping up guys. Jessica, we look forward to seeing you with the team full time this Summer!

Andy Dollar was an awesome base coach for us tonight. I think we made a lot less errors because of your direction. Thanks Andy!

Next week we play the Xtremes, the team I subbed for last week, but this time the ThunderCats will prevail, HOOOOOO!

ThunderCats vs. Switchbacks / Game 8

Tonight we were looking hot in the first inning. We were in the field first and we got the first 3 batters out. I (Kristina) was up to bat first and I made it on base. Doug hit after me and he also made it on base. Jana was up third and she hit a pop fly that was caught getting us our first out. Then our star hitter, Ryan, was up and he slammed Doug and me in to home. The rest is history. We lost 15 - 2. We had some good plays though. Justin made an incredible catch in right center that was hit by Goliath himself. Chris is getting better at pitcher every week. He made a great play at home tonight in our first inning. Ta made a ton of sweet plays at short stop. Nicole tried out catcher tonight and did a great job. Special thanks to Natalie Kipper who stepped up to the plate for Rachel who is out of town this week.

There was another game after ours and one of the teams was short a female player so they asked if any of our girls would be willing to play with them. I consented and stayed to play catcher for the Xtremes. We played against Oyster Barn (the team that beat us last week). We ended up winning 11-7. Though I turned out to contribute nothing to their game other than my presence, it felt nice to win. However, I would never relinquish my spot on my beloved ThunderCats team. We may lose, but to me you are all winners!

Meet The Team

I wasn't going to do this, but since it looks like the team might be around for awhile I decided it is blog worthy. The ThunderCats team was organized in March of 2009 by Nicole Wood, our considerate and empathetic team manager. There are 12 people on our co-ed team:
Justin Cersey
Kristina Cersey

Carey Fox
Chris Fox

Brindi Horsley
Ryan Horsley

Rachel Keanum
Doug Kipper
Jesse Kipper
Jana Thanasack
Ta Thanasack
Nicole Wood

We have played 6 games to date, and we have lost 6 games to date, but we are improving. For example, last week we avoided the mercy rule and got to play for the full hour! We play every Thursday evening at Bethesda Park. This week our game is at 8:30 and we are playing against the Switchbacks for the second time. Check back here to get updates on the outcome of our games.
