ThunderCats Vs. Assurant Allstars 5/13/10

Happy day! The Cats are back in the Zone! We played the Allstars again and won...again. Though we started off slowly we slaughtered them in the end. The final score was 16 to 3 Cats! We are back in the number 4 spot for our league. It took us a couple innings to get warmed up. We were all struggling at the plate and our fielding wasn't as clean as it could've been, but we turned things around. Though we were missing Becky (thanks for subbing Carey) Brandon was back with us and we were so glad to have him!

A lot of great things happened this game. Lacey was our catcher and she made a great play behind the plate by catching a pop up foul in her bare hand! Billy, our pitcher, also made a great play at home by decking a runner in the face just before he touched the plate. The hit wasn't intentional, but the runner was very unhappy about it all the same, especially since he thought he had just hit a homerun. Speaking of homeruns, Ryan had one this game! It didn't quite clear the fence but it hit the fence. It was far enough out there that he was able to make it all the way home.

Once we got used to the Allstars' pitcher, who pitched extremely low, we were able to hit much better and the runs just kept racking up. It was a nice win, especially since we were all still a little upset because of last week's loss. Go Cats!

The Birds of Doom needed some girls to sub for them, so Lacey and I obliged them even though they are next week's competition. They were playing the Sons of Pitches, so we had conflicting feelings about how we wanted the game to go. We wanted to beat the Sons of Pitches since they unjustly won against us last week, but at the same time we didn't want the Birds to win because they beat us once also and we play them next week. They put me at third and Lacey at catcher. The Birds ended up winning 12 to 4. It was fun to play with them, but hopefully we will be able to beat them next week.

ThunderCats Vs. Sons Of Pitches 5/6/10

This was a sad game. As Ryan so aptly put it, "those Sons of Pitches didn't win, we just lost". We could've easily beaten this team, but for some reason we just fell apart. It wasn't any one person's fault. Our loss was a team effort. The final score was 7 to 11 Sons of Pitches". It was not a good night for the cats.

ThunderCats vs. Green Machines 4/29/10

Well, this post will be short and sweet. The Green Machines where so afraid to go up against the wrath of the dreaded Cats that they forfeited the game. So we won 7 to 0. Not exactly the kind of victory we were hoping for, but I guess it will have to do. Until next week folks!

ThunderCats vs. Knuckleheads 4/22/2010

Oh Boy! The ThunderCats won big tonight friends! We beat the Knuckleheads 15 to 0! It was a confidence boosting victory after getting smacked down last week. We tried to be nice about our win because we know all to well what it feels like to be on the other side of a slaughter like this.

We started out in the field one player short. Brandon was a few minutes late, so we had to begin without him meaning there were only 3 players in the outfield (yes, softball is pansified baseball). It ended up being fine though because no balls were hit to the outfield that inning or any inning thereafter. As the matter of fact, I think the only people involved in any given play were Billy (Pitcher), Jonny (SS), Brandon/Ryan (1st), and Jess (2nd) like one time. The Knuckleheads pretty much had 3 up 3 down every time they were up to bat. I don't think they even made it through their entire batting order once.

We, on the other hand, hit the hot crap out of the ball all night. I was first at bat this evening and I nailed the poo stew out of that melon. Granted, I am a girl, so when I say I "nailed the poo stew out of that melon", I mean that I hit a nice hard line drive to shallow center field, but still, I made it to first no problem. Jonny was up after me and he really smacked the squeeze out of that soft serve, and that is how we got our first couple of runs and they didn't stop coming after that. Billy had his first in the park homer of the game this inning. I think we were up by 6 after the first inning.

When we were back in the field Brandon was with us at first base and the 3 amigos (Brandon, Billy, and Jonny) worked their magic. 3 up 3 down, if my memory serves me correctly.

Back at bat we kept running the bases with one good hit after another. Several of us were walked because the pitcher was starting to shake in his cleats for fear of the killer Cats. We tried to hit as often as possible, because only the weak sauce man/woman takes a walk if he/she can avoid it. Billy had another in the park homer at some point. All-star, what? But he is not the only one who shined at the plate, oh no, everyone hit like a super star tonight. Jess had to high-tail it home once and ended her run with a beautiful slide in for the point. Safe by the skin of her knees. That's right folks, we were out for blood, and it flowed like kool-aid.

We were all extremely please with the win. We needed a little pick me up and we got it tonight. Unfortunately we didn't have a camera tonight, so no pics. Most of us met up at Steak n' Shake afterwords to celebrate. Good times were had by all, except my screaming children.

Special thanks to Brandon for coming back into town just to play in this game with us. He is headed back to work in Columbus at the butt crack tomorrow. We feel for you B! Thanks for speeding home for us!

Next week we play the Green Machines. They will be more of a challenge, but I think we are up for it. See you all at the ballpark next week at 6:00! ThunderCats HOOOOO!

ThunderCats vs. Birds of Doom 3/30/10

Well folks, I’ve been reluctant to post this week because we had an unfortunate loss. The worst part of it is that we could’ve won this game. We were even ahead for awhile, but we ended up losing 5 to 9. This is a team that we have played in seasons past and beaten. Luckily we will have a shot at redeeming ourselves in game 9. I am confident that we can beat these Birds.

We kept the same positions that we had the first week. In general, I think we all played well, we just had a few minor blunders that weren’t any one person’s fault that cost us the game. Let’s focus on the highlights. Brindi had a great catch in Left Center. Jess made a great catch at 2nd and facilitated several great plays as usual. Jonny was a superstar at ss, where he made some amazing stops that caused plenty of cuts and scrapes. Ryan made one of the coolest foul ball catches ever where he slid for the ball and has the bloody elbows to prove it. Billy had some great hits. I know there were other awesome moments, but I can’t remember them all. If you are on the team and you want to contribute to these posts then please leave a comment or email me.

The dunce moment of the week was when I was running from first to second so fast that I overran it and then fell down like an idiot in effort to stop myself. The worst part of it was that I could have kept going to third if I had been paying attention. So now I have scabby knees to remind me of my idiocy. Oops.
Next week we play the Stumblin’ Drunks. Don’t let the team name fool you. This has the potential of being a close game, so it should be entertaining. Come out and support us!

ThunderCats vs. Assurant Allstars 3/25/10

We are back folks, and if this game is any indication of what is to come then we are in for a hot season! The Cats were the home team so we played the field first. We kept the self-proclaimed “Allstars” from scoring any runs. We got up to bat and things started out a little rough. They got 2 outs on us almost immediately, but things got better fast as the combination of walks and hits worked in our favor. I can’t remember the exact number, but we got a ton of runs that inning.

When we headed back out to the field we witnessed the coolest thing ever! One of the Allstars made the mistake of hitting a ball right to our true all-star Short Stop, Jonny. There were runners on 1st and 2nd. The ball was hit and the runners started to advance. Jonny caught the ball tagged 2nd before the runner could get back to his bag, and then Jonny made a perfect throw to Justin at 1st who was also able to tag his bag before the runner could get back safely. Yes people, you are reading that right. We are talking a triple play here! It was truly amazing. You should have been there because your eyes may never witness such an awesome site.

Jess was smokin’ at 2nd as usual. She made some great stops. We are so glad to have such a fearless girl on our team! Our outfield did well too (Brandon, Brindi, Billy, and Lacey), thought they didn’t get to see too much action this game. I do remember Brandon making one sweet catch in left field.

Ryan was our pitcher. This was his first time pitching for us and he did great! He even had one strike out, which is not easy to do in slow pitch softball. Ryan also assisted some good plays. Becky was our catcher. Though there weren’t too many opportunities for plays at home because the other team didn’t score too often, Becky did a great job encouraging Ryan to pitch well. I played 3rd. I made one catch, and was able to get the ball all the way back over to 1st when needed, though never in time for the out. At least I kept the runner at bay.

Billy is a phenomenal hitter. He is a switch hitter who can knock the crap out the ball when batting from the left, and can consistently hit all that passes him from his right. Pretty sweet huh? In fact, all of our guys are hitting well this season, hence our win 13 to 5 this week! I can’t wait for next week when we play the Birds of Doom. See you then!

ThunderCats 2010!

Softball season is here again people and the ThunderCats are back with a vengeance! We have some new players this season. Becky Facer, and Billy and Lacey Quale are the newcomers. Brandon Earick has subbed for us many times, but has become a full-time Cat this season. The rest of the team consists of Jessica Dollar, Jonny Wood, Ryan and Brindi Horsley, Justin Cersey and me, Kristina Cersey. We play Thursday nights at Bethesda Park. I’m looking forward to a great season with you all! ThunderCats HOOOOO!!!
