ThunderCats vs. Misfits 6/18

We played out last game of the Spring season last Thursday. As always, we lost. The Misfits are one of the best teams in the league. If their girls didn't have boobs we wouldn't have been able to tell them apart from the guys. They were really good, but I won't dwell on the negative details. Instead I will pay tribute to each of our ThunderCats. Thanks to Jessica's photography each player has a collage below consisting of pictures from our last game. The collages are displayed in the same order as the players location in the batting order last week. Keep in mind that I made this batting order and I suck at softball strategy, so no need to criticize. I am well aware of my inadequacy.

Unfortunately, Ryan could not be at our last game, so there are no pictures of him, but Andy subbed for him so there is a collage of him where Ryan's would have been. By the way, Andy is coaching and playing with us in our Summer season. Welcome to the team!

I put myself first in the batting order because I am conceded and cocky and I know that this is the best place for me. Just kidding...sort of. Though I am probably conceded and cocky, I put myself first because usually I can hit resonably well and get on base, but I didn't in this particular game. I made a lot of errors at 3rd base during this game as well, but I did make one pretty good catch that resulted in an out, but sadly there are no pictures of it. Check out my arm in the picture on the top right. I don't know where those muscles came from, because they were certainly not there before and after I left the batter's box. Also, you will notice that Nicole, Carey, and I are sporting new ThunderCats wear. We printed the tanks ourselves.

Chris always gives it his all on the field. He is too hard on himself, but he should know that he is a really good player. Look at that ready position on the top left, a thing of beauty. He played SS again last week and he made several good plays. The crazy thing was that just as Chris and I thought we were getting to know the Misfits as batters they totally changed things up on us (a sign of a great team), so Chris and I were all over the place trying to field the balls. I've enjoied playing next to you in the field Chris. Keep that arm warm!

Jana is a sweet outfielder. She made some great catches last week. You can tell by her expression in some of these pictures that she is a serious player. She knows the game really well because she played for many years in her childhood. We are going to miss her on the team in the Summer, but hopefully she will come back every now and then to sub for us.

Andy just hit for us last week, but he did an awesome job. He was one of the 4 guys who actually made it on base this game. He even slid back to first after trying to advance to second. He made it, but he jacked his shoulder in the process. Hurry up and get better Andy! You've got a lot more playing to do!

Carey is HOT, HOT, HOT! She played 2nd and right field last week. Check out the nice out that she got at second in the bottom right corner. She went for the double, but the runner was a little too quick. Carey hussles at any position she plays. Check out those hot legs! Carey can also throw pretty far...for a girl.

Ta was our pitcher. He has been a great asset to our team. He is so versitile. He was another one of the few to get on base. He also tried to make it to second, but was forced back to first. The Misfits weren't going to let us get very far in this game. We didn't score at all.

Nicole, Nicole, Nicole. What would we do without our beloved manager? Nicole played catcher and right field. She is always a good sport, and is willing to play wherever she is needed. I keep forgetting to compliment her on this, but she made an awesome play at home last week. I believe she got our only out at home that the catcher has facilitated for the season. Way to go Nicole! Let's see more plays like that next season! Hot uniform, by the way!

This hottie made a sweet as candy catch at 1st last week. Look at him dive for the ball! Way to sacrifice yourself for the ball Justin! He then attempted to get the chick running to second out, but she made it back by the skin of her teeth. Justin can hit well too, but for some reason games aren't his best venue for hitting. That will change next season, right Justin?

Brindi played right field and 2nd last week. As you can see, she is the only player on our team that refuses to get cleats, but she tries her best to make up for it. She has definitely improved over the course of our season. Keep up the hard work for next season Brindi! I love the graceful way she is picking up the ball in the picture at the top left.

Jesse plays it cool wherever he is on the field and he can really look intemidating. He was in center field last week. Check out the stance and expression in almost every picture, no emotion. He hit really well last week and made it on base which was a big deal in last week's game. Jesse is a competitive guy, so I know how tough it must have been for him to be on a losing team. He has always been a good sport about it though. Jesse has a busy Summer planned, so he has decided not to play next season. We will miss you Jesse.

Rachel was our rookie on the team. She had never played softball before, but she was determined to learn and to do her best. She came into the team not knowing anyone real well except for Nicole, but she managed to put up with us crazies. She has improved over the course of the season as well. Like the rest of us, she has gotten hit with the ball a few times, but she has taken her blows in stride. Thanks for playing with us Rachel! I hope you have enjoied it.

Doug, the powerhouse, played center field also and man did he rock that position! He made several amazing catches in the outfield last week. Even the Misfits were impressed by Doug's skills. If I had to name an MVP for last week's game it would be Doug. He also almost made it to 3rd base, unlike anyone else on our team last week. He got caught in a pickle and ended up having to succumb to the inevitable out. There is a picture of it on the bottom right. Doug played hard this season and he has the scar to prove it. Sorry we never won, but I've enjoied having you on the team.

So there it is. The season is over and though we had no wins I think we learned a lot. Our spirits are still high and we still have high hopes for next season.

Our next season starts on July 7th at Bethesda park. We will play every Tuesday for 10 weeks (with exceptions for rainouts). We will have some new players next season too. Andy and Jessica Dollar are joining us as well as Jonny Wood, and Scott Kaiser. Welcome to the team guys! THUNDERCATS HOOOO!

ThunderCats vs. Xtremes 6/4

So I was too disappointed to do a post Thursday after our game. Though we played our best game the other night, our efforts did not result in a win. We came so close to winning that we could all taste the sweetness of victory, but we got anxious and triumph slipped away from us. Here is a brief synopsis of how things went:

It was raining pretty much the whole game, but if anything the rain made us play better. The rain cooled us down and the clouds kept the sun out of our eyes. We were the visitors and we scored one point in the first inning and kept the Xtremes from scoring when they got up to bat. In the second inning we scored 4 more times and then again we kept them from scoring when they got up to bat, but we began to lose it in the third inning and the Xtremes scored 5 runs! In the 4th inning we scored 2 more times and kept the Xtremes at bay until the 6th inning when we psyched ourselves out and let them get 3 runs. The Xtremes won 8-7. I almost cried I was so disappointed.

Some of the highlights of our game the other night:

Justin had an amazing catch in center left. He dove for it and caught the ball 4 inches before it hit the ground! He was running so fast when he dove for it his momentum kept him rolling for a second but he held on to the ball and we got the most amazing out ever!!!

Ryan had 2 in the park home runs which were the reasons we got most of our runs.

The Fox’s had a great game. Chris was at Short and Carey was at 2nd. They facilitated a double play one inning and had back to back outs catching in field pop-flies.

All in all it was a bitter sweet game. We played well for the most part, but as usual the win wasn’t ours.
