ThunderCats vs. Jimmy's Cousin 5/28

I wanted to take some pictures tonight but I didn't try very hard to get good ones because my head was in the game. So, we were the home team and in the first inning I can't remember how many runs Jimmy's Cousin scored (I don't know the story behind their team name, but it's probably stupid) but it wasn't more than 3. When we got up to bat we didn't get any runs and we consistently got no runs until the last inning when we scored twice. We lost of course and the score ended up being 2 - 9, but we played 6 whole innings and we actually played pretty well in comparison to some other games.

Ta made some amazing plays at short stop as usual and then took over pitching for the last couple of innings. Chris was our pitcher for the first several innings and then handed the mound to Ta when his arm wore out.

Doug Kipper was running for a fly ball in left field and he ended up taking one on the face for the team. I wish I had thought to get a picture of it cause the gash was crazy deep. He is in need of some serious stitches. We hope that you recover quickly Doug!

Jessica Dollar subbed for Brindi tonight and Nicole's Mom, Laura, subbed for Rachel. Thanks for stepping up guys. Jessica, we look forward to seeing you with the team full time this Summer!

Andy Dollar was an awesome base coach for us tonight. I think we made a lot less errors because of your direction. Thanks Andy!

Next week we play the Xtremes, the team I subbed for last week, but this time the ThunderCats will prevail, HOOOOOO!

ThunderCats vs. Switchbacks / Game 8

Tonight we were looking hot in the first inning. We were in the field first and we got the first 3 batters out. I (Kristina) was up to bat first and I made it on base. Doug hit after me and he also made it on base. Jana was up third and she hit a pop fly that was caught getting us our first out. Then our star hitter, Ryan, was up and he slammed Doug and me in to home. The rest is history. We lost 15 - 2. We had some good plays though. Justin made an incredible catch in right center that was hit by Goliath himself. Chris is getting better at pitcher every week. He made a great play at home tonight in our first inning. Ta made a ton of sweet plays at short stop. Nicole tried out catcher tonight and did a great job. Special thanks to Natalie Kipper who stepped up to the plate for Rachel who is out of town this week.

There was another game after ours and one of the teams was short a female player so they asked if any of our girls would be willing to play with them. I consented and stayed to play catcher for the Xtremes. We played against Oyster Barn (the team that beat us last week). We ended up winning 11-7. Though I turned out to contribute nothing to their game other than my presence, it felt nice to win. However, I would never relinquish my spot on my beloved ThunderCats team. We may lose, but to me you are all winners!

Meet The Team

I wasn't going to do this, but since it looks like the team might be around for awhile I decided it is blog worthy. The ThunderCats team was organized in March of 2009 by Nicole Wood, our considerate and empathetic team manager. There are 12 people on our co-ed team:
Justin Cersey
Kristina Cersey

Carey Fox
Chris Fox

Brindi Horsley
Ryan Horsley

Rachel Keanum
Doug Kipper
Jesse Kipper
Jana Thanasack
Ta Thanasack
Nicole Wood

We have played 6 games to date, and we have lost 6 games to date, but we are improving. For example, last week we avoided the mercy rule and got to play for the full hour! We play every Thursday evening at Bethesda Park. This week our game is at 8:30 and we are playing against the Switchbacks for the second time. Check back here to get updates on the outcome of our games.
